What we do, and what we don't

We dispute what is wrong. We tell you what is right.

A credit report is a record of what lenders, collectors and courts have told the bureaus about you. Most of it is accurate. Some of it is not: a balance that was paid, an account that was never yours, a late payment reported twice, a collection that should have aged off. Those are the items worth disputing.

We go through each account on all three reports with you and sort it into one of three piles. Items that look inaccurate or incomplete, items the reporting company may not be able to verify, and items that are accurate and will stay until the law says they can no longer be reported. You see all three piles, not just the first one.

  • Three reports, read with you
  • Only wrong or unverifiable items disputed
  • Accurate items explained, not hidden
  • Your right to do it yourself, up front

How it works

Three steps, in plain words

Nothing is disputed until you have seen your reports with us and decided to go ahead.

  1. Free consultation

We talk through what is on your Equifax, Experian and TransUnion reports and what you want your credit to do for you, such as renting, financing a car or applying for a mortgage.

  2. Item-by-item review

We mark each account as possibly inaccurate, possibly unverifiable, or accurate. You get the reason for each one, so you know what can change and what cannot.

  3. Disputes and follow-up

If you sign up, we send disputes for the items that look wrong, track the bureaus' answers, and explain each result. A bureau generally has 30 days to investigate a dispute under federal law.

Before you hire anyone to work on your credit

You have the right to dispute inaccurate information in your credit report by contacting the credit bureau directly, and the bureau may not charge you for it. No one has the right to have accurate, current and verifiable information removed. Guides

Learn how credit reports work

Our guides answer the questions people ask us most, with the law and the sources behind each answer: how to improve your credit score, how credit builder cards and loans work, and the warning signs of a credit repair scam. If a collection or a late payment is the problem, start with collections on your credit report or late payments. Every guide is listed on our guides page, and about us explains who writes them and the rules we follow.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they call

What does Optimum Credit Solutions actually do?

We review your three credit reports with you, find items that look inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or unverifiable, and dispute those items with the credit bureaus and, where it helps, with the company that reported them. We also explain how each part of your report affects your credit and what you can do on your own.

Can a credit repair company remove accurate negative information?

No. Federal law says neither you nor any credit repair company can have accurate, current and verifiable information removed from your credit report. A bureau has to remove accurate negative information only once it is too old to report, which for most items is seven years and for some bankruptcies ten years.

Can I dispute errors on my credit report myself?

Yes, and it costs nothing. You can file a dispute directly with Equifax, Experian or TransUnion, and the bureau must investigate it for free. The FTC says anything a credit repair company can do legally, you can do for yourself at little or no cost. Some people hire us for the time, the organization and the follow-up.

How long does a credit bureau have to investigate a dispute?

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a bureau generally has 30 days from receiving your dispute to finish its reinvestigation. That period can be extended by up to 15 days if you send more information during it. The bureau then has to tell you the result in writing.

Is the consultation really free?

Yes. The first conversation is free and carries no obligation. We look at what your reports say with you and explain your options, including the ones you can handle yourself without paying anyone. You decide afterwards whether you want our help.

Can you promise that items will be deleted?

No. No credit repair company can honestly promise that an item will be deleted or that a score will reach a certain number, because the outcome depends on what the bureaus and the reporting companies find. What we can promise is to dispute only what looks wrong and to tell you plainly what we find.

Want a second set of eyes on your credit reports?

The consultation is free and carries no obligation. We look at what your reports say, tell you which items may be worth disputing, and explain what you can do on your own.
